Payment statuses
Understand invoices, blockchain confirmations, partial payments, and late transfers.
Invoice, payment, and balance
An invoice describes what you charge. Its selected payment method provides a token, network, deposit address, and exact expected amount. Blockchain transactions pay that invoice. A balance credit is a separate accounting step after confirmed funds are processed.
A fiat-priced invoice can offer several cryptocurrency methods. Once a method is issued, use the saved checkout instructions; a rate preview is not the final transfer amount.
Status reference
| Status | Meaning | What your store should do |
|---|---|---|
NEW | A payment method has not been issued yet. | Share the checkout link. |
PENDING | Payment instructions are available. | Wait for a transfer. |
CONFIRMING | A transaction is waiting for blockchain confirmation. | Keep the order pending. |
PARTIALLY_PAID | The confirmed total is below the expected amount before expiry. | Show the remaining amount; do not fulfil automatically. |
PAID | The confirmed total matches the expected amount. | Fulfil once after server-side verification. |
OVERPAID | The confirmed total exceeds the expected amount. | Fulfil once and handle the excess under your policy. |
EXPIRED | The invoice expired without a sufficient confirmed total. | Stop offering a new payment method; keep handling late-payment events. |
FAILED | Settlement has failed. | Do not fulfil automatically; investigate. |
CANCELLED | The invoice is cancelled. | Do not fulfil automatically. |
Late payments
EXPIRED is not an irreversible settlement state. A late transfer to an already issued address can update the invoice to PAID or OVERPAID using its original quote. Keep receiving webhooks for expired invoices and reconcile changes with your order policy.
An unconfirmed transaction can keep an invoice in CONFIRMING after its expiry. Network confirmation requirements come from the selected method; do not hard-code one count for every network.
Token and network must match
Use the exact token, network, and address shown on the checkout. A token symbol alone does not identify a payment network. Available combinations depend on active assets and merchant settings; the public invoice response describes the offered combinations.
